My YouTube Channel, called Mike Kemp’s Garage Jazz, started on Saturday 2nd January 2021 presenting videos of me playing straight ahead piano jazz along with double bass and drum tracks I’ve made myself using an App called GarageBand, hence the name Mike Kemp’s Garage Jazz. There are now 134 videos to watch.
The Channel features music from The Great American Song Book from Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Rodgers & Hammerstein, the list goes on and on. There will be music from the swing era, jazz standards, stage & screen musicals, bossa novas and the occasional original. A new video is added once a week. Some weeks I feature a guest instrumentalist or vocalist and, occasionally, a videos recorded live are shown.
The idea to do it came as a follow on to weekly videos I started making for Facebook when the pandemic lockdown started in March 2020 when all live gigs with real musicians were cancelled. There are forty of my videos on Facebook. Friends who know about all things connected to internet social media started advising me to switch from Facebook to YouTube to reach a wider audience.
